Though he first appeared in Batman #121 in 1959, Mr. The Penguin has deep pockets and an extensive reach, and he's able to completely destroy someone's life without even lifting a finger.Ī former actor, Basil Karlo appeared in Detective Comics #40 in 1940 where he took on the villainous persona and later mutated into the morphing mud monster fans now know. Penguin first appeared in Detective Comics #58 in 1941. The character started as a traditional burgler but over the years grew into a full blown crime lord and even anti-hero. The on-again, off-again love interest for the hero first appeared in Batman #1 way back in 1940. Two-Face made his comic book debut in Detective Comics #66 back in 1942, as attorney Harvey Dent he defended the law but as the scared and damaged villain, Two-Face has an obsession with the number 2 and maintains a balance in his decision making by flipping his trademark coin. The Scarecrow made his debut in 1941's World's Finest #3 as a psychiatrist obsessed with fear who employes his “fear toxin” to make victims face their worst fears with a startling multiplier.īane first appeared in the comic Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1 leading into the famous comic storyline “Knightfall,” which saw the villain cripple the hero by breaking his back. A psychiatrist that fell in love with The Joker, Quinn worked as his female counterpart and cohort for many years before wandering off to work as a villain in her own right.įirst appearing in Detective Comics #140 in 1948, the character has an obsession with creating crimes around riddles and puzzles and is constantly obsessed with outwitting the Batman. Harley Quinn made her debut not in the pages of DC comics but in the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Joker's Favor” in 1992. An unpredictable criminal mastermind, the Joker often commits crimes simply for the joy of doing them. The Joker first appeared in Batman #1 in 1940 and has gone on to become the Dark Knight's greatest foe. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed The LEGO Movie, produced the film along with Dan Lin. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.Ĭhris McKay directed The LEGO Batman Moviefrom a script by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter creator Seth Grahame-Smith. In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure: The LEGO Batman Movie. Will Arnett reprises his role of Batman from The LEGO Movie as the voice of the titular Dark Knight, alongside Michael Cera as Robin the boy wonder, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, Mariah Carey as Gotham’s mayor, and Zach Galifianakis as The Joker. Since Kyno doesn't support the HLG, I can't test an external ProRes transcoding (don't have EditReady). If you choose "rec_2020HLG" manually, it's the same as none. You can change the appearance dramatically by going to >inspector >info >settings >override color space. Because being HLG, FCP does not apply a V-Log LUT. Well, those are MOVs ("H.264 Level 10") of which QT player X says: unsupported file type, unable to play video. 10-bit H.264 or HEVC from the G5 needs to be optimized in FCP. Looks like FCP is automatically applying VLog. EditReady doesn’t transcode unless you want it to. It is vastly faster to import and takes much less disk space.ĪVCHD doesn’t use a proprietary codec. However if you will be dealing with more AVCHD content in the future, I suggest you re-wrap that with EdityReady then import with "leave files in place". If you have plenty of disk space, and don't mind waiting to create optimized media for your already-imported MTS files, then it would probably work to select all the MTS files in your library, right-click and select Transcode>Create Optimized Media. This includes the ability to properly import them with "leave files in place". MTS files in a compatible wrapper so FCPX can properly handle those. It does not take six times the original space like ProRes does, and does not take long periods to transcode - like creating ProRes optimized media does. If used to re-wrap AVCHD, EditReady does not convert this to ProRes. I wonder, at this point instead of converting in mores 422 files with edit ready I should do as before, ie with final cut pro x tick the "create optimize media" option and let it come also copied to the library, although I will have many GB in the end no matter since I use a 1Tb HD. However AVCHD is only 1080 resolution and normally 1080p is not that difficult but lack of Quick Sync due to using a Hackintosh could be an additional slowdown factor. Thus the on-chip GPU must normally be disabled in the BIOS which also disables Quick Sync.ĪVCHD is a form of H264 and without Quick Sync all encode/decode must be done in software. This is because Hackintoshes can normally not switch dynamically from the on-chip GPU (where Quick Sync is implemented) to the external GPU. (2) You are using a Hackintosh which usually do not have Quick Sync capability - regardless of CPU. The performance issue scales upward with library size so with small libraries it might not be noticed but with increasing size it rapidly becomes apparent. If all you have left are the bare MTS files I'd suggest re-wrapping them externally before import using EditReady: If you have already imported bare MTS files with "leave files in place" those must be removed and properly re-imported, otherwise it will always be slow, even if the MTS files are only a small % of the overall content. Usually performance is good when using that method, although it takes more space due to the file copy. When importing that way, it will not allow "leave files in place" but will copy and re-wrap (not transcode) those those files to the library. (1) If you are dealing with bare MTS files, IOW files which have been removed from the AVCHD package and imported with "leave files in place", that may cause severe performance problems due to how FCPX handles the I/O.ĪVCHD material should *always* be imported from the folder tree, in which case you normally don't see the bare. Can you work on projects with native AVCHD MTS files to create 1-hour videos without converting to pro-res?. doi:10.1039/C5FO01530HĪmerican Academy of Family Physicians:. One thing that has changed: in August 2014 Harpoon became an employee owned company! Brewed with a touch of black honey and golden promise malt, Don't Poke the Bear is a crushable black and gold-en ale with a bright hoppy nose and just a faint hint of. We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends. To help re-stock our fridge for game night, we called up our brewin' friend and Massachusetts native, Chris Wagner, to develop the perfect liquid companion for a playoff push. Though many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, much has stayed the same. It was hard to imagine that craft brewing would become what it has today. Fresh, local craft beer began making its way out to Boston beer drinkers. In June of 1987 a warehouse space on the Boston waterfront was transformed into a brewery and the first Harpoon Ale was brewed. They decided to build a brewery so that they could brew the beers that they wanted to drink, and invite their friends to the brewery to drink it with them. Traveling through Europe and experiencing the rich traditions of European brewing and beer drinking enhanced their love of beer and opened their eyes to the rich beer culture they wanted back home. They were three friends who loved beer and loved drinking beer together but found the beer choices at the time to be limited. Harpoon was started in 1986 by Dan Kenary, Rich Doyle, and George Ligeti. This brewery has not provided an update on their status. This is the last time I want to write my name here.” In December 1944, the president’s blood pressure was 260 over 150, and on an April day in 1945 American newspapers published the daily casualty list with next of kin, including this: “Army-Navy Dead: ROOSEVELT, Franklin D., commander-in-chief wife, Mrs. Dwight Eisenhower’s command: “Subordination held little appeal for a solipsist.” Churchill, whose thoughts encompassed millennia past and future, ordered German rocket sites on the French side of the English Channel destroyed so the French could not use them “if they fall out of temper with us.” These words were on a fortification in France: “Austin White, Chicago, Ill., 1918. Britain before D-Day “was steeped in heavy smells, of old smoke and cheap coal and fatigue.” Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery chaffed under Gen. armed forces did in the entire war.” But “for magnitude and unalloyed violence, the battle in the Ardennes” - the Battle of the Bulge - “was unlike any seen before in American history.” The 600,000 Americans who fought in the Ardennes were four times the number of Union and Confederate soldiers atĪtkinson’s story is propelled by vivid descriptions and delicious details. Western Europe was, Atkinson stresses, just one cauldron: “The Red Army suffered more combat deaths at Stalingrad alone than the U.S. Spend the shank end of summer with Atkinson’s tribute to all who served and suffered. infantryman wrote, “No war is really over until the last veteran is dead,” the war has not ended: About 400 World War II veterans, almost half a battalion, are dying each day. Neighbors kept vigil overnight, carpeting the floor with roses, and in the morning they bore the brothers to Hilltop Cemetery for burial side by side by side beneath an iron sky.”Ītkinson’s “The Guns at Last Light,” the completion of his trilogy on the liberation of Western Europe, is history written at the level of literature. “Gray and stooped, the elder Wright watched as the caskets were carried into the rustic bedroom where each boy had been born. The bodies of soldiers from the European theater, writes Rick Atkinson, “then traveled by rail in a great diaspora across the republic for burial in their hometowns.” Three young men, killed between the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944 and April 1945 in Germany two weeks before the war in Europe ended, were destined for Henry Wright’s Missouri farm: 27, 1947, thousands of caskets were unloaded from a ship in New York. “The saviors come not home tonight: Themselves they could not save.” - Lines from A.E. The amazing part is that it can convert my cursive. It supports offline handwriting recognition, and it can do it in multiple languages. The notetaking app is also amazing in its own right. It also supports multiple offline dictionaries, including English-to-English, English-to-Russian and others. They are saved and are persistent after closing and reopening, but they do not appear to alter the original file.Īs mentioned earlier, the Boox e-reader also supports TTS (text to speech) but I hope they add more/better voices. I do not know how these edits and annotations are stored. Here, as an example, I have edited a page of a CBR. The Boox e-reader has opened all of them, and, once they are opened in that e-reader, it means you can write on them. I have tried the following file formats: PDF, EPUB, CHM, CBZ and CBR. You'll use the pen mostly in Boox's notetaking section and in Boox's e-reader. The Reddit app runs on it.Įven Youtube videos play on it at its "fastest" (slowest?) refresh rate setting, "X mode". The pen will not work on most Android apps, but most Android apps are touch- and virtual keyboard- based. The Boox supports the Android app ecosystem. Some people find it nice to have some background music while they sketch or write, or they could play an unabridged audiobook while reading the ebook at the same time (that's better than the text-to-speech, which the Boox can also do, especially with the limited available TTS voices - you can choose between a very Chinese-accented English voice or a robotic English voice). RMs have neither bluetooth nor speakers, so there is no audio support. The result is sometimes, when playing back music with random playback, it lands on and plays a random chapter of audiobook. However, the Boox music app does not discern between music files it finds from audiobook files, even though I put them in separate root folders. What can the Boox do that the RM2 cannot? I am currently playing back music through bluetooth earbuds from the Boox while writing this reply. Onyx has been sending out software updates back to the original Nova (2 years ago), but an Android 9 update had been advertised everywhere (e.g., Amazon) for pre-Nova2 devices, and that has yet to materialize. People shelling out the money for these want at least a few years of real support behind them. Having fast product development cycles can be bad however, if there is inadequate support for past products. It's a bit too much of a coincidence to me that the Note Air has the same form factor as RM2 and is unlike any of the rest of the Boox line and has a unibody aluminum case, again unlike any of the rest of the Boox line. It would not surprise me if someone from Onyx saw a photo of an RM2 and had this similar design ready to go in months. Their product development is so fast, and their software support seems pretty good with updates and releases. The pixels are just larger on the 10" devices (lower PPI, pixels per inch), so the 8" devices look crisper but the 10" devices allow working with slightly better precision, as it's like working with a 25% zoom-in with larger work area vs the 8". The thing there though is that, whether 8" or 10", it's still the same number of pixels. (It was between that and the RM1 for a temp sub-$300 solution, but the bullies here left a bad taste, honestly.) The Nova Pro has reinforced to me that 8" is still the perfect reading size (from ownership of iPad vs iPad Mini), but writing would benefit from the extra 2", just from the standpoint of seemingly usable writing space. If you have specific questions, I can answer from the perspective of having messed around with that for a couple of weeks. The Nova Pro is the version prior to the Nova 2 and came out last year (March 2019) and it is exactly the same size as my iPad Mini. Meanwhile, I found a deal on a like-new Nova Pro to use in the interim and get my feet wet. I found out that larger sized color eInk displays will be releasing next year, so I am going to wait until then and see how they are. You might want to also post to r/ereaderĪnyway I am still looking at eInk devices, particularly in the 10" sizes. The answers you receive here will lean towards RM, and the posts that aren't glowing about RM tend to get downvoted and therefore sometimes hidden. Something to be noted is that this is quite a bit like a fan-site (which is typical of Reddit), and I think some RM employees might also be lurking here. I was in your place a little while ago, looking at devices and doing research in different places, including here. Half (or quarter if the squash is on the larger side) the squash and place cut side up in a baking dish with a little bit of water on the bottom. I like to use the baking method when I plan on stuffing squash.īaking squash is best done at a temperature around 350☏. Similar to boiling, chopping into cubes and placing it in a steamer basket is a simple, no-frills way to cook the squash and again, a great option when the final intention is to puree or mash. While the rind is edible, the puree will be smoother and more consistent if peeled. If creating a puree is indeed your intention, I would then peel the squash before chopping. Make sure to drain well.īoiling is a great cooking option for when you intend to puree the squash. While dependent on the size of your cubes, this shouldn’t take much longer than 10 minutes. To boil buttercup, I like to chop the squash in cubes and add it to boiling, salted water. STOVE-TOP METHODSīoiling and steaming are two easy stove-top methods and are great in that they both help keep the squash tender and moist. With that in mind, there are a quite a few ways to cook buttercup squash. I love squash that don’t require peeling, it makes dinner prep that much easier! Just like in this Kabocha Squash Chili, you can cook the squash with the rind still intact and it will soften up along with the flesh to enjoy as an edible part of the meal!ĭelicata is another one that doesn’t require peeling either and I love enjoying it roasted and stuffed for exactly that reason – you can eat the whole thing! One of the best features of buttercup squash is that the rind is edible! With its rich yellow/orange color, it’s packed with vitamin A and beta carotene. Like all winter squash, buttercup is a great source of fiber and a deliciously satisfying lower carbohydrate side dish option. The two squash taste very similar despite looking quite different. It would make a great baking substitute for pumpkin (like in these parmesan pumpkin scones) or butternut (like in these butternut squash biscuits) once baked and pureed.īuttercup squash was actually used as one of two squash (the other being butternut) to breed honeynut squash. Not stringy at all like spaghetti squash or even acorn can sometimes be. It sweetens up beautifully when cooked and the flesh is nice and smooth textured. To me, it’s most like kabocha squash in sweetness and flavor. One of the reasons it’s worth seeking out a buttercup squash is because of it’s delicate sweet flavor. You can see a picture of that type of buttercup squash in this Thai buttercup squash soup recipe. Other times, however, the top where the stem is will have a domed little circle (usually a light green color) sort of popping out. It can be a little bit confusing when they look like this to decipher a buttercup from a kabocha squash. Sometimes, it will look exactly like the picture above – a mostly dark green, somewhat short and flat shaped squash with a few streaks of light green on the sides and a top that just has a normal looking stem coming out the center. This is the tricky part because buttercup squash can actually look a little different from one to the other! It’s very similar to koginut squash and sweet dumpling squash in that regard, another more unique winter squash worth trying! WHAT DOES BUTTERCUP SQUASH LOOK LIKE? It’s a bit more unusual than other winter squash but worth seeking out! You may be lucky enough to grab one of these guys at your local grocery store but chances are more likely you’ll find buttercup squash at your local farmers market or farm stand during the fall or winter seasons. We’ll touch on everything from where to buy it to the best ways to cook buttercup squash and then a simple oven roasted buttercup squash recipe that uses maple syrup to really amp up the fall flavors. So, we’re going to dive deep into it today! I wrote an entire guide to winter squash a bit ago and while I covered the basic winter squash in that article, buttercup wasn’t really on my radar back then. Learn the best ways to cook it including this simple method for roasting in the oven until sweet and caramelized.īuttercup squash is one of the many fall squash varieties but a little less well known than some of its relatives like butternut, spaghetti, acorn or even delicata and kabocha. Buttercup squash is an often overlooked member of the fall squash family. TI does not warrant that the Licensed Materials will be free from errors or will meet your specific requirements.
